Canada is a North American country which consists of ten provinces and three territories. This country is located in the northern part of the continent and it extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean. Ottawa is the capital of Canada and the largest metropolis in the country is Toronto. Canada is famous for its cold winter climate but some areas are always warm in the south during the summer. The total area of Canada is 9 984 670 sq km which makes it the second-largest country in the world by total area and it consists of 6 time zones with a population of 36,286,425.
The name Canada comes from the word “Kanta” which means village. The coastline of Canada is 202,080 km which is the longest in the world. This country has many fascinating high mountains, prairie grasslands, many forests and arctic tundra where the ground is always frozen. It’s home to over 30000 lakes. The longest street in the world is in Canada and its length is 2000km. The major spoken languages in Canada are English and French. The country does not have an official religion and the constitution supports religion freedom. Canada is a multicultural country. It has many tourist destinations with the main ones located in the major cities; Montréal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Quebec city and Toronto. The Canadian dollar is the official currency of the country. The flag of Canada has two main colours; two red stripes encompass a white stripe. There is a red maple leaf at the centre of the white stripe which signifies Canada’s love for nature. The motto of Canada is A Mari Usque ad Mare and it means “From sea to sea.” The country is ranked highly internationally in education, economic freedom and standard of living. A total of 26 universities in Canada feature in the QS World University Rankings® 2016-2017, including three are in the world’s top 50 with 10 more making the world’s top 300.
