About Hungary
Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe. The country is bordered by seven countries including Ukraine, Serbia, Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, and Austria. Budapest is the capital and the largest city in Hungary. About 1.7 million people live in the city of Budapest. Its cityscape is studded with architectural landmarks from Buda’s medieval Castle Hill and grand neoclassical buildings along Pest’s Andrássy Avenue to the 19th-century Chain Bridge. In 1873, Buda and Óbuda (Old Buda) on the west bank of the Danube River unified with Pest on the east-bank to become Budapest.
The country has a total land area of 93,030 square kilometres with a total population of about 10 million inhabitants. The official language in Hungary is Hungarian. It is a language that descends directly from the language spoken by the Hun people and is unique in that it is like no other languages in Europe except for Finnish and Estonian. Its official currency is Hungarian Forint.
The highest peak in Hungary is Kekes standing at 1,014 m (3327 ft) in the Mátra Mountains. This country is a popular tourist destination for tourist around the world. Hungary has a popular spa and bath culture, with around 1,500 thermal water springs and 450 public baths. Budapest has many grand spas such as the famous Gellért Baths and the Széchenyi Thermal Baths.
Hungarians have invented many important items over the years, including the electric motor, the Telephone Exchange, and BASIC programming language. Laszlo Biro invented the ballpoint pen, Erno Rubik invented the Rubik’s Cube.
Goulash stew is a famous Hungarian dish and paprika (ground red peppers), is also a Hungarian innovation. Dobos torte or Dobosh is a Hungarian sponge cake layered with chocolate buttercream, nuts on the sides and topped with caramel.
